Life hacks are becoming increasingly common on social media. Do students watch all those videos? If so, what’s the best tip they’ve ever seen?

“I don’t use social media much. Life hacks are something I stumble across, but don’t really use. I’ve seen tips on how to better manage my time, which I thought were interesting. I watched those life hacks, but they didn’t really help me. They haven’t changed my life.”
Derk, student Global Project & Change Management

“I spend a lot of time on Instagram, since I need it for my university work. My boyfriend found a lifehack for me on Reels: it is an app called Screen Zen. The app helps you to manage your time more consciously. You can spend one hour a day on Instagram, divided into six sessions of ten minutes each. It really keeps me focused.”

“I mostly see a lot of household life hacks, like using vinegar instead of fabric softener. I came across that idea on Instagram. There aren’t any hacks that make me think ‘this is complete nonsense’. I believe most of them, but I don’t try them all! Putting vinegar in the washing machine seemed pretty harmless to me. I tried it, and it worked perfectly.”
Josephine, student Teacher Education in English

“I’m not really into life hacks or other social media trends. Sometimes I see something like using toothpaste to clean things. I haven’t tried that, because I don’t believe in it at all. There are probably hacks that actually work, but it all feels rather fake to me.”
Kyran, student Industrial Engineering & Management

“I often come across all sorts of life hacks on Instagram Reels. I usually just skip them, but there’s one I really liked! If you’ve been out all night and had a little too much to drink, you can just stick your head in an ice-cold bath the next day. Your hangover will be gone in no time. That hack really works well.”
