Bianca in The Netherlands: ‘Cats and slides’

Bianca Stoichita, an exchange student from Romania, is currently studying at Windesheim. She is following the courses Future Cities and Circular Housing. For WIN, she is reporting on her experiences in Zwolle.

I bet that all of us students want to have a great time while we are here abroad and to not spend our entire time staying at home and watching shows. Maybe some of us do, but for the ones that enjoy activities, I will tell you about two of my favourite discoveries in Zwolle.

Cat café Skatjes

I personally have a soft spot for cats in my heart and they are my favourite pets. Although I have never owned a pet in my life, I always like to be around them and treat them like little princesses. In my home country, Romania, it is pretty hard to find a Cat Café because it is not really a popular thing and we only have a few in the entire country.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover this cat café in Zwolle on a sunny day while I was shopping in the center of the city. As soon as I saw it I thought to myself: ‘I have to stop here!’ So I grabbed a friend of mine and we went for a snack and chat inside. Note that you have to make an appointment beforehand to catch free spots, but we were lucky that day and found a perfect place for us.

Little treats

The cats are super friendly and the staff as well. They also give you little treats next to your drink! For me it was a pleasant experience because I got to relax and also feel very good around the little pets that were walking around me and investigating everything that I owned. I totally recommend this place if you have the same vision as me.

Bonus points: slides

I was walking through the Windesheim campus one day and I entered building A for the sports area. I was shocked to discover the two slides that came from the first floor to get you down to the ground floor. I thought it was the coolest idea I’ve ever seen! (If you want to easily find, you can enter the building through the doors close to the sports bar.) I couldn’t resist myself and me and my fellow students went up to the first floor in search of the slide entrance, which was quite easy to find. Totally recommend it after a day full of classes to brighten up your mood!
