Why would you stand in line at overcrowded hotspots in the Zwolle city center, when the city has so much more to offer? WIN tested seven surprising terraces outside the city center where you can have a great time.

Freddies
In the middle of a crossroads in the Assendorperstraat you will find Freddies; a cozy Parisian-looking terrace with colored chairs made of wicker and pink parasols with tassels. A nice and convenient place to meet because you see a lot of people passing by, although all those racing (cargo-)bikes around you can feel a bit dangerous. The service is nice and drinks are freshly made for you. Rating: 7
Café de Tagrijn

Beautiful place with a view of the Thorbeckegracht canal in Zwolle where you can enjoy the sun for a long time, especially in the late afternoon and evening. De Tagrijn has a long and exciting history. Five years ago, there was a fire that almost completely destroyed the café. There is no trace of that now. The drinks menu is large and exciting, just like the nachos that you can order with your drink. Rating: 9
A Lot of Books

Established on the Koggelaan for a year and a half now, so within walking distance of the campus. You order drinks and sweet snacks inside and then someone will bring outside to your picnic table. You can sit there quietly and sheltered behind a cleverly placed beech hedge. But the place also gives a gloomy lonely suburban feeling. As far as we are concerned, a hidden fake pearl: nice, but not real. Rating: 6
Bistro Pampus

Do you want to have a romantic dinner in a good restaurant on a sultry summer evening? Then Bistro Pampus is the right place for you. Nice and cool in the shade you will get into a French holiday mood. The food is special and luxurious and will certainly make an impression. Pampus is open from 17:00, so it’s perfect to end your summer day off here with a cocktail and lobster. Rating: 7.5
Café de Stroomberg

If you want to taste the old Zwolle, you have to go to de Stroomberg. The terrace looks vintage-chic, just like the drinks that are delicious and cheap. After you have done your culinary shopping at the exotic shops in the Thomas á Kempisstraat, de Stroomberg is an ideal place for a coffee or lunch. Because in the evening it feels a bit cold and busy with all the rushing delivery scooters and bicycles around you. Rating: 9

Café Lubeck
Nice big terrace where you will stick around because of the extensive menu and wide choice of sorbets. It is a logical place between Zwolle station and Windesheim. On Thursday evenings open extra-long, so ideal for a class drink or dinner. Rating: 7.5
Van der Velde in de Broeren

Although this place is mainly known as a literary Valhalla, you can also go there for a nice luxurious and expensive lunch. In our opinion, the Broerenplein does not look nice and cozy because of the many new and high-rise buildings around you. The terrace is not super sunny and it takes a while before you get served.
